Synonyms:

• Hemichromis leiguardii de Brito Capello, 1873, With type locality at Guinée-Bissau. Determiner: Boulenger, 1898.
• Hemichromis fasciatus violacea Pellegrin, 1922, With type locality at Sénégal. Determiner: Daget , 1991.

Conservation: Hemichromis fasciatus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2010).
