Original description as Diplotaxodon argenteus:

Conservation: Diplotaxodon argenteus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). Diplotaxodon argenteus is a very common cichlid of the deeper water and is normally not exploited by local fishermen, except by hook and line.
