Copadichromis borleyi (Iles, 1960)
Original description as Haplochromis borleyi:
- Iles, Thomas Derrick. 1960. "A group of zooplankton feeders of the genus Haplochromis (Cichlidae) in Lake Nyasa". Annals and Magazine of Natural History. (Ser. 13) pp. 257-280 (crc00958).
Conservation: Copadichromis borleyi is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). Copadichromis borleyi belongs to the few utaka that is only marginally affected by the massive over-fishing going on in Lake Malawi. Utaka are the heaviest hit by local fishermen but C. borleyi prefers to stay close to the rocky habitat and often alongside large boulders. Chirmila nets, the typical nets used for utaka fisheries, cannot be employed near rocky substrates.
