Anyone Keeping The Iranian Cichlid - Iranocichla Hormuzensis

Discussion about cichlids from Africa other than Rift Lake

There was talk over a year ago that Oliver Lucanus was trying to import some of these fish. I have yet to see any on the Below Water website, so I guess it didn't pan out.

Great news Dan!!

Sounds like it is just a matter of time before it becomes readily available to us cichlidiots!

Anyone who want some of these beautiful, small, comparably peacefull chichlids has either come to Austria or to Iran. (both very beautiful places)

Hannes Svardal

Hello Hannes,

I was waiting for my #3/06 copy of the Germany magazine Aquarisk Aktuelle with anxiety just to read your article when I found you here! Almost incredible!

So here are some questions:

1) What size the tank?
2) How many specimens in the same tank?
3) What do you feed them?
4) What about the temperature in your tank and in the wild?
5) What the average size in the wild?
6) Are only dominant males so black?

For now it's enough but ... last but not the least ... where do you live in Austria?
Italy is not too far from your country (not the same for Iran) :D :D :D

Thanks a lot,
Paolo

Danakilia franchettii from Ethiopia has been considered Iranocichla's closest relative. Others say Tristramella. Brian Code's website has the best information on this fish.

I just want to show a photo og my young Iranocichla hormuzensis. We used connections at the InterZoo 2006 i Nürnberg, to get the species to Denmark. Thanks again !!
My Iranocichla hormuzensis are eating and swiming arround, and it looks as if they have a good time in the tank. So I am hoping the best.

The latest photo of one of my Iranocichla hormuzensis. He is beginning to show different colours than the others. But there is no sign of any fight. They are all swimming around peacefully. A very nice cichlid, that I am very glad to have in my aquarium.
