Fantastic cichlid! Have you had any success with spawning them?

Hi we have 2 colonies in France and one of them did spawn but unfortunately not mine, but it 'll not take too much time before it happens
the male grow to 10 cm adult size and have a blue irridescence in the spinous dorsal fin. I'll tell the people here to keep fry for an send to US.

Wow! Hello... :) What a neet little Cichlid, I have to admit this whole genus is rather new to me. In shape, they remind my of the Cyprichromis and other 'sardine" Cichlids of Tanganyika, however you say they are rockdwellers. So I take it they do not behave the same. How do they spawn?

Hi, they are harem mouth brooders as almost all haplochromines are. Males can become territorial , in fact it looks more closer to Paracyprichromis in behaviors but being a little more active, mines are always searching foods and males almost not all the time diplaying courtship in front of the females.

Only the dominant male is hiding in the holes, the group staying in mid water column.

So they are still considered under Haplichromis? I figured that "H." was something I'd never heard of.

until a scientific description is made, they are still in the genus Haplochromis.

Those I have are aggressive and male[s] chase larger Pseudocrenilabrus philander around a lot in both 150 cm log and 200 cm long tanks...

Mine are housed with Lithochromis xantopteryx Makobe and both species do live well together :) the females of both are holding regularly and males are fully colored.

My males are almost always fully color too. I think Lithochromis is more able to hold its place and position than Pseudocrenilabrus though. Pseudocrenilabrus seems rather weak once it gets dominated.

Hi
Yes yu're right Pseudocrenilabrus is too weak to be keep with haplochromines perhaps it woulb work better with H.sp"argens"; H.pyrrocephalus

I have a trio of H. thereuterion, they live with A. aeneocolor without problems. The male is always in breeding colors but he mate with any females. He hasn't dug any pit since now.

After 15 days of mouthbrooding my female released 7 very tiny fry. She has others in her mouth. The male hadn't dug a pit, breeding occurred like Cyprichromis in mid water but near a wood.
