MCA / MCAS Metro Detroit Fishroom Tour - Official Announceme

Postby Jeffrom » Thu Mar 08, 2012 11:47 pm

Michigan Cichlid Association and Motor City Aquarium Society
are proud to present
2012 Metro Detroit Fishroom Tour

Date: Sunday April 15, 2012
Start time: 10:00am
Meet at: McDonalds
9437 Lee Road
Brighton, MI
(Lee Road exit off of 23 just south of 96)

Tour Stop Highlights:

Marty Derenge – Marty currently maintains over 100 tanks with a little bit of everything. A number of Old World Cichlids, New World Cichlids, Plecos, and his pet Mbu puffer.

Pete & Kathy Durkin - Whatever written here will not do justice to operation that Durkin’s have. Durkin’s have simply an amazing collection of breeding stock of Tropheus to Plecos and everything in between.

Juergen Kasprick – Juergen’s fishroom was featured in a video on Tedsfishroom.com. He maintains a number of Killies, tetras, livebearers, as well as propagating his own live foods.

John & Betty Oyer – Known for breeding countless strains of Frontosa, John and Betty maintain literally hundreds of tanks of mostly old world cichlids.

Mike Zebrowski – Mike won’t admit it but a number of people consider him to be a Pike expert. In addition to his large collection of Pikes, Mike keeps a number of high quality cichlids.

Additional stops will be added to the official itinerary that will be distributed the morning of the tour. We are specifically looking to add at least one fishroom specializing in South / Central American Cichlids and / or Stingrays.

RSVPs are not required but it would be greatly appreciated! For additional information or to RSVP contact:

This seems like something the OCA could do rather well. There should be a number of 1st class fishrooms in our area . What do you say BOD ??

Good thought, Ron. Guess we can float the idea around and see what people think.

It is tempting if I can find some people to car pool with.

Just wondering. Is this for members only (MCAS) or can anyone just tag along?

By no means is it members only. We are looking forward to out of town guests.

On an additional note, the week before the tour one of the tour stops is planning on placing an order with Old World Exotics and another stop plans on placing a SA order. They intend on offering pre-order sales that could be picked up during the tour. If they do those orders I'll ask them to post on this forum as well.

Hey, this is Marty Derenge from the Michigan Cichlid Association.

I've posted a list for the Old World Order on the group order section of our forum www.michigancichlid.com

If anyone is coming up and would like to order fish to be picked up at my place on the day of the tour, please contact me to make payment arrangements. Unless you sign up as a member on our site, the best way to contact me would probably be email. My email address is: nasa02@yahoo.com

Here is a direct link to the thread Marty was speaking of regarding a Pre-Order from Old World Exotic Fish: http://michigancichlid.com/simplemachin ... sg6692#new

I originally had no intentions of ordering anything, then I saw the list and there seems to be a few things I can't live without. With no room in my tanks it will be interesting to see how I justify any purchases.

Just got a call making sure our tour was still on, so I figured I would also post confirming that the tour is still scheduled for Sunday. Look forward to seeing any and all of you.

We had a great tour. I highly encourage the OCA to put together a Cleveland Fishroom Tour. If you guys do a tour, please come over to MCA (michigancichlid.com) and invite us.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thank you for a wonderful tour!!

Thank you to Jeff Matson and Blair Henze for organizing and running the tour. Nobody got lost, even though the fish rooms were miles apart. The program was well organized and the directions were clear. Susan & I enjoyed speaking with members of the tour group about various fish and room set-ups.

Thank you to: John & Betty Oyer, Mike Zebrowski, Marty Derenge, Juergen Kasprick and Pete & Cathy Durkin for opening up your homes and fish rooms. Especially, on a rainy, muddy day! It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

I will bring the idea up with my fellow OCA members. Hopefully, we'll be able reciprocate.

Thanks,

Gary Mendez
