new heros

Postby fishop » Thu Feb 09, 2012 9:52 am

i recently acquired these heros from spencer jack.. he says they were imported from venezuala - he's trying to get more specific collection location information for me.. he thought they might be notatus.. oliver lucanus thinks they are an undescribed species.. they apparently came in mixed with a group of heros severus..

really nice colour, lots of iridescence, yellow cheeks, and the spots on the body are really red for most of these.. all of them have spots/markings on the cheeks - hopefully they are not all males.. some have red on the chest or throat area.. i'm hoping the last picture is female..

any thoughts from the heros experts?

yes that's it! thank u florent...

after some research i see that inirida has 8 bars and other species have 9 bars.. these fish have awesome colour right now, and i can see from the adult picture u posted that they are probably going to get better with age..

Beautiful Heros..
The youngsters looks Notatus to me, but I doubt Florent mistakes identifying SA cichlids.

My 'notatus' have blackish dots on the body. These specimens show reddish dots. Also the breast area is pinkish. I know the differences are subtle. Actually, both Spencer and I thought they were 'notatus' initially as well. As @fishop mentioned, they came mixed in with some 'severus' (which they are not). But they could very well be 'sp. Inirida'. A cool find, to say the least. They're rare in our neck of the woods.
