A. diadema or A. sp. 'Jenaro Herrera' pls ID my Aequidens

Postby qbsztyk1 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 9:53 am

Fishes was purchased as Aequidens diadema - BUJURQUI RED - Nanay, (named by the exporter). After reading some posts here, I think that it is an undescribed species - Aequidens sp. "Jenaro Herrera." Am I right?

Here are pictures of my Acaras:

And actual, after two months

I agree with you. They are likely Aequidens sp 'Jenaro Herrera' , Aequidens diadema is from upper Rio Negro and it's a larvophilous mouthbreeder

Great pictures of beautiful fish!

Is the one eating an Oto cat?

@Florent, I am waiting for spawning, to have one hundred percent certainty, I know that it is as you say, but I need more confirmation :)

@dogofwar, thanks, exactly, my "diadema" eats Otocinclus in this photo, they actually ate the whole group of them :)

They have turned into stunners !

Don't seem to have quite the normal shape of diadema either, which are usually slightly "leaner" in profile and have a blunter head in my experience.

Hello
I have one 30W lamp SYLVANIA GROLUX 8500K, photo taken without flash, but I have quite fast lens.
