Hi all,

Did any body have information of how to keep Greenwoodochromis bellcrossi ?
I know that Thomas keep and spawn them ! Did you keep them in couple or little group ?

I just got my first successful spawning of this species. It appears, like all species from the tribe Limnochromini, that the parents exchange eggs and fry repeatedly. I striped my male of approx. 100 freeswimming fry a couple of days ago. Fry are approx. 9 to 10 mm total length. I maintained my pair in a 55 gallon tank. Before this successful spawning, I did separate my male due to it being overly aggressive towards the female. Upon returning the male (after a 5 week stay in another aquarium) to the aquarium housing the female, they cohabitated peacefully and spawned a week later. It was only after I removed the fry this past weekend that the males' aggression returned towards the female. I currently have a divider in the tank separating them both.

Male is approx. 17 cm and the female approx. 13 cm total length.

As an aside, I had a 30 cm long Mastacembelus moorii in with the pair. Towards the end of the brood cycle, the male G. bellcrossi became quite aggressive towards the M. moorii, even cornering it into the upper portion of the aquarium. The M. moorii has since been relocated to another, more peaceful tank.

Update on my fry: At 5 cm total length, one of the juveniles has actually made a crater in the sand, approx. 13 in diameter. This only happened after I sold off all but 10 juveniles being housed in a 55 gallon aquarium. Not sure what to make of this yet, as they are surely way too young to spawn. This, coupled with their unbelievable appetites, adds more fascination to a fish that not too long ago, was considered one of the "holy grails" of Lake Tanganyika.

I have had G bellcrossi for 19 months. Bought three in Jan '10, lost one a few weeks after and then bought another in Dec of '10.
All three have lived peacefully and are absolutely spectacular cichlids.
I honestly believe I have three that are the same sex. I have been looking for someone who has kept these to tell me if there is a difference between males and females.
I have plenty of pics and even several pics of each being vented.
The largest is about 6.5" (16.5cm)
