That guy is awesome Dan! Very different than the yellows. Maybe someday I'll get one of those but right now I'm loving my yellow labs. They're doing great. Thanks for the great fish.

There seems to be too much strawberry red on this fish's unpaired fins to be H. sp. "Tamul" to me it looks reminiscent of H. pantostictus of Taninul Springs, commonly known as "Blue Labridens"........... but I also see H. sp. "Tamul" traits as well......... Perhaps I'm wrong though! :) ????????

On a side note......... that fish seems to be photographed in the same corner of that tank.......... for the fish's sake, I would hope the tank is much larger and some decor/substrate provided.

I'm not sure what you are seeing, Rick, but the aquarium that this species is in appears to be plenty large enough for it. The photo appears to be taken when the fish was in the corner of the tank. Can you not see this?

I'm with Rick observing that the fish does seem rather strressed

As Rick sais, it has too much red in its fins to resemble the white Labridens from Tamasopo falls. I have 5 F1's, for 3 years or so. These never had any red in their fins. However, the red might be a result of too much strress for lack of decoration

PLEASE provide the fish with a normal tank : sand on the bottom, rocks and wood to shelter behind.

Mine are in a 180 * 60 * 60 cm - that is 6 * 2 * 2 feet - tank, and this goes very well. Tankmates? H tamasopoensis and a pleco.

Tank is unheated, and both species give fry regularly

This fish is by not means Herichthys sp 'tamul' as it has been suggested, the red on the fins and the height of the body are clear indications that this beautiful cichlid is in fact one of the pluvial forms of Herichthys pantostictus, which one would be hard to say from those pictures. Beautiful fish indeed!

Taninul springs blue lab is pantostictus with the red blotch behind the pectoral fins being an indicator on panto, was just saying that this fish isn't sp. Tamul but rather a panto, one that reminded be of taninul springs with the red on the unpaired fins.... Pantostictus has a wide range of variation!
