Any guesses on if this is a Herichthys Pantostictus or Blue Taninul?

Thanks

With the freckled cheeks, I'd say panto.

On a related note, I was struck by how much the breeding coloration of the Rio Axtla population of H. pantosctictus (as shown on the photo that Juan Miguel just uploaded) resembles that of H. labridens.

Herichthys Pantostictus or Blue Taninul

The red scaleless blotch behind the pectoral fins is a definitive feature of H. pantostictus. Tanninul Springs "Blue Labridens" is a common name that has been assigned to H. pantostictus from that location. So, yes you have pantostictus. As for catch location of your panto, I will need to look at photos from a PC and not from my phone, however, this would be guesswork...... I have kept panto from Taninul and can also share pics from my PC later.

Juan Miguel could probably tell you exactly where they are from within 100 meters! Lol!

Here's a thread of my old "Blue Labridens" or H. pantostictus Taninul Springs: http://www.eacichlid.co.uk/showthread.p ... ul-Springs

Looking at the photos, I would think your fish is definetely not from Taninul Springs.......... Cranial profile, deeper bodied and lack of any red pigment make them two very different fish IMO.

Looks real nice Justin. I'd go with Panto as well.

Looks more like a Tanninul to me.
