My dominant ochrogenys male

Hello forum,

My tank is 120x50x50 cm long and the ochrogenys group consists of 2 males and 4 females. I have the xenotilapia ochrogenys "kigoma".
The males have a beautifull color! One of the males is dominant and very aggressive to the other fishes.
What can I do that the dominant male will be peacefull? More stones for more districts?

Hi,

I also wanted to keep Xenotilapia ochrogenys in a tank like that.
A cichlids specialist advise me to build two distinct territory separating the tank in the middle with rocks which must be as higher as one male can't see the other.After you have to put rocks in all the back to allow females to hide from males.
It's just what can I say because I never realize this project.
But I also think that a tank of 1,2x0,5x0,5 is a minimum for the Xenotilapia ochrogenys.

Hi Florian,

The trick is to reduce the visibility between the males by dividing the tank into smaller sections, as Tangaflame also describe. Besides rocks, water plants like Vallisneria are also good, especially for offering the females some protection. I’m actually decorating a “sectionized” tank at the moment, that’s planned to house two X. flavipinnis pairs – I’ll post some pics when I’m done, hopefully in the end of the week

Not that many, at least not as many as I would - but hopefully I´ll be moving to a bigger place with space for a nice fish-room before long

375 l (150 x 50 x 50 cm): X. sp. “red princess”, X. sp. “fluorescent green”

325 l (130 x 50 x 50 cm): X. ornatipinnis, X. bathyphila Kekese

250 l (100 x 50 x 50 cm): Lestradea perspicax, X. bathyphila Zambia

250 l (100 x 50 x 50 cm): X. flavipinnis Nyanza Lac

128 + 85 + 85 l for fry

I have tried to house red princess with either papilio tembwe, flavipinnis , bathyphila or fluorescent green, It seems that only fluorescent green is fine with red princess. concur with your current arrangement.

Yes, Xenotilapia sp. "fluorescent green" is the only species I´ve kept with the red princess, who has not disturbed them in one way or another
