Discussion about cichlids from South America

Satanoperca ID

I got 4 of them from a local pet shop. They were sold as S. jurupari, but they aren't IMO. The seem to be something like S. cf. leucosticta. Unfortunately, I have no info about their origin.

Hello, They seems to be a classic S leucosticta. My fishes looked similar to yours and now they look that:

But in satanoperca genus it's better to wait when fish grow up..:)

I think leucosticta aswell. jurupari dont have spangles.
Most 'jurupari' sold by lfs's over the years have been leucosticta, and most still are.

Marcin, you're leuco's look very very nice. My are small 6-7cm now.

Here some not the best pics (sorry...):

i have same as well.this variant comes Rio Meta,showing no redish on cheecks when older.
Marcin's fish looks like young red amazonas type,but i might be wrong.
defo for leucosticta :)
