Dear Rico, Dear all,
according to Rican & Kullander (2008) the taxon Heros acaroides
Hensel, 1870 is a synonym of Australoheros facetus
. But there map (cf. Fig 1 in Rican & Kullander 2008) of the collecting localities of the facetus
group is not congruent with this statement, because there is no locality of their facetus
in the area of the type locality of Heros acaroides
. Hensel (1870) distinguished his acaroides
from Heros autochthon
(a synonym of facetus
) by a higher number of cheek scale rows (4-5 in acaroides
versus usually 3 in facetus
). This is why I think Heros acaroides
Hensel, 1870 is not a synonym of facetus
. A redescription is on the way and will be published soon.

Why do you think that the nine species ''named'' by Ottoni & Costa are only distinguishable by the authors? There is a clear diagnosis for every single species taxon.
