Resellers of Clout in Europe?

Postby joenne » Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:07 pm

Hi,

First of all! GREAT forum you have here!!

I'm a Danish Malawi fish keeper and I have for quite some time been struggling with hanging fish, lacking appetite and a few with swollen stomachs. I've treated for Malawi bloat with nearly every possible locally offered product, but without any luck. On this site and from other sources I've read about the drug Clout from Aquarium Products that should do the trick. I've, however, only been able to find Clout at petstores in the US that are not shipping outside the US and Canada.

Does anyone know of any stores that shippes to Europe or resellers located in Europe?

Thanks in advance! :)

I've sent an e-mail to API in the US requesting the phone number for the local office in the UK.

However, when it comes to medical supplies, I have a feeling that local regulations regarding what is legal and what isn't may be different between the US and Europe (and even different countries within Europe, as the Eurocrats haven't qutie agreed on common rules).

I'll try to post any result from my enquiries here...

Unfortunately, the current status is that I'm back to square one...

Aquarium Pharmaceutical (who make Stress coat) is the WRONG company [my bad, I confused them], so I've just sent another mail to the RIGHT company, asking for details of their european distributor.. We'll see what turns up.

By the way, if your problem is Malawi bloat, you can use Minocyclin hydrochloride instead of clout. You can find all the details here :
http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aq ... you05.html

I have used it many times and have saved many fishes, provided I start early enough. It is a human medication, don't search for it in petshops. Manufactured by Lederle, first time I found a reference for it was by Paul Loiselle..

Aquarium Products is obviously a lot less responsive than API, still haven't had a reply other than the "Don't reply to this e-mail, it's just to say that we've received yours".

Hi polleni,

Thanks for the advise on Minocyclin hydrochloride! I will definately have that in mind for future treatments. All suggestions and ways of treating Malawi bloat or internal parasites in general is MORE than welcome. I've had more than enough experiences on that account, so every suggestion like the one you provided just adds to my knowledge on how to beat such diseases - Thanks!

Status as of now is that I've been able to order some Clout and have also ordered and received a product called Waterlife Octozin. It may sound as a medicine overkill, but my patience towards this disease ran out a long time ago, and I just wanna find out what works and what doesn't! :?

Hi Mats,

Thanks for trying! I have also sent them a similar request, but haven't received any answer either :? It seems customer support and service aren't totally dominating their business :x

Thanks anyway!

What really worries me is WHY you have all those Malawi bloat incidences. I guess most hobbyists have come across this but normally you should get one case every 2 years. If you get one case per month, there is something wrong in your tank(s) and it would be preferrable to identify the cause instead of treating every once in a while. This will make both you and your fish happier.

Polleni: I've experienced malawi bloat or at least symptoms on malawi bloat two times. The most recent I consider bad luck - a small aulonocara had jumped behind my rocky background and had been stressed by my noisy powerheads (at least from what I think!). Some kind of internal protozoa developed and spread to approx. 50% of the fish in tank.

However, I agree! and since my first experience of "Malawi bloat" I've been much more careful of avoiding stress and ensuring good water conditions.

Anyhow, both experiences have made me rethink whether I should continue keeping Malawi's. Therefore, I'm trying to find a more efficient method of treatment in order to minimize the damage if a similar situation should re-appear.
