Gymnogeophagus Sp Norte Sexing?

Can anyone tell me what sex this fish is. And how you determined.

I would say your second photo is a male but it is kind of hard to tell due to the lighting. From what I've been told females are more drab and a bit yellower. I have three males and their colors really standout!

Thank you. I was hoping someone would indicate something to that effect. I have a couple that are a little "drabber" than the others. I was concerned that they were stressed males and not females.

Hi abarilot

I was told that mine are descended from Spencer Jacks from his expeditions. The whole gymno thing confuses me.I can't keep any oif the locations or groups straight. I reviewed his trips to posts and found no mention of El NOrte but of course he has the picture of El Norte displayed prominently w/o a location associated.

Norte is the variation of the ex Meridonalis that covers a great deal of the northern part of Uruguay, I'm sure that Felipe will come on and correct me, I was not at my best for the beginning of my trip in March, the part when we were in the north. Besides, I was too excited about Pikes to pay attention to the Gymnos at that point

It is coming from the larger north area. But how anybody can oversee Gymnogeophagus because of any pike is beyond me

toward the end of the trip, I began to fully appreciate the Gymnos, after seeing some spectacular adults, not yet in breeding dress

I am still a creni guy at heart, but, I am going back, and will pursue the Gymnos with more intrest this time

He did ID mine as Sequiera however the thread was on mfk a couple of months ago.

G.n.sp."Sequeira" and G.n.sp."Norte" are the same sp. but diff. location/population, both from the north area of the country.
