How many Ptychochromis?

Postby Lisachromis » Tue Jan 27, 2004 10:15 pm

Hi!

I was just trying to keep up with the situation of cichlids in Madagascar lately, and was reading a fairly new issue of Cichlid News. I was reading Sonia's article on Ptychochromis. That got me to thinking.... how many Ptychochromis are there? Official species and "sp." included.... Does anyone know?

Hi all,
Richi has mentioned nearly all the Ptychochromis mentioned in Jean-Claude and Patrick's book. However, there are also 2 others, Pty. sp. Tarantsy and Pty. sp. Manampanihy, so it would seem that there are several species within the Ptychochromis genus.

Regarding the English version of the Mada book, next week, I am going to Patrick's home in Switzerland to complete the final English correction. Hopefully the book will be published in the near future.

Regards,
Sonia
