I was wondering what species this was. I was under the assumption it was a female Bleekeri. Thanks.

bleekeri (if the species name is not a synonym of polleni) is a large spoted Paratilapia probably extinct (if I don't mistake).
The small spotted paratilapia belong to different species that need to be described.
Without any information about the locality your fish comes from, I guess it'll be difficult to give it a correct name.

The large blotched Paratilapia, namely the Andapa form, is still around namely here in Portugal.

Yes, indeed....Paratilapia typus (Andapa) is only available in Europe, darn it!!! I located an exported in Portugal to send fish to Texas but unfortunately the owner did not want to part with a few to start a colony across the Atlantic. Your fish, as Philippe mentioned, is not bleekeri. In fact, unless you know the breeder to be careful not to mix strains, you may have a hybrid- usually a loss in the number of spots is a give away but don't quote me on that. A redescription of the genus is in the works and you'll probably see it in some form in the updated book Patrick de Rham and Nourissat published for the French Cichlid Association.

I don't think that the Paratilapia "Andapa" is P. typus because P. "Andapa" is a large blotched Paratilapia. It seems (but I can mistake) that P. typus is a small spot Paratilapia and COULD be P. sp "East Coast"

This is an interesting issue, what I have come to know as comming from the Andapa cuvete is the very large spotted Paratilapia- will have to look for some text from Patrick at some point. I hope the comming revision of the genus will sort some of the issues.

The Andapa form probably extends much more in the south because a french aquarist in the beginning of the 80's sent to France a few large spotted Paratilapia coming from "Foulpoint" 60 kms north of Tamatave.
Unfortunatly it's now impossible to know exactly where because the guy has been eaten by a crocodile.

Evidently, Philippe, Paratilapia typus is a small spot species, thanks for correcting me !!! As you point out its range is on the east coast of Madagascar.
