Madagascar spawning

Postby cavey » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:04 pm

Hi all,

I have a pair of Madagascar Cichlids that are in the process of spawning. They have dug a pit and it has some black eggs in it.

I have noticed though that the male appears to be very enthusiastic and keeps trying to spawn with the female. Iam ok with that, however he keep shovelling gravel from the spawning area and tips it in the pit on top of the eggs.

Should I look to remove the eggs or do you think they will sort this out themselves. The female is now starting to bit him when he goes shovelling, but he is pretty persistant.

What do you think??

I am curious as to what Madagascar Cichlid you are speaking of. Are these paratilapia polleni (bleekeri) or also called small spot or large spot?

Since it has been a couple weeks I am also wondering how they did. Possibly not well as you have not posted. Sorry I just joined this site. I am looking for 2 or more of the above mentioned fish. Do you have a better picture too? Thanks , Rich
