The Cichlid Room Companion

Can someone help me identify this fish? My sister has given me these pictures and would like to know what it is. Right now, it's in a tank by itself, and she wants to know what she can put in with it. I don't know much about cichlids, but it looked like one to me, so I figured the fine folks on this board would know.

this is Tilapia buttikoferi . A very big cichlid; up to 40 cm ...

And as it grows, it's interesting colour pattern will fade out......

Thanks... I believe it was sold to them a while ago as a "community" fish. It wasn't too long before it was the only fish left in the community. Looks like he'll be going back to the store.

yes, fine for a community tank :roll:

Jean-Claude Nourissat had some in one of his tank with large "Cichlasoma"... but the tank was 15000 liters !
In this tank it was not agressive.
