Where are the Tropheus Lovers????????

Just wanted to find some company here.

This is what I keep right now:

You are probably right and they belong into sp. red.

They had some simply stunning tropheus in Holland.

But these are expensive fish, still probably a lot cheaper than UK tho,, if they are available.

Are those "karago" brichardi? They are awesome! How do they get along? Do you have to keep only one male in the colony or are they easier on each other?

Yes, they are a Brichardi type. They get along like all other Tropheus, nothying out of the ordinair. Unfortunately I was only able to get 7 of them. They are in a 4 foot / 65g and share the tank with some juvenile Simochromis.

One male per group is something I would NEVER do. The ideal ratio for me is one male/two female. I have kept groups with more males then females and had no problems. One advatage is that the males will chase each other and give the females a little break, the other is that you have different males breeding with different females which will keep your gene pool healthier for a longer time.

I like Tropheus very much. Right now, they are not as popular here in Denmark as they used to be, but they have a steady base of followers.

I am surprised that they are not as popular in Denmark right now. As a former member of the German Cichlid Association (DCG) I still have good contacts there. Germany is still crazy about these fish.

Not really unpopular, just a bit overshadowed by other cichlids right now. They will undoubtedly be back to full strength again

I do have some questions about the Tropheus sp. "novarum". This is the very first time that I have heared that name and the only internet lead is Magdalena Kwolek-Mirek's website.

Where is it found in the lake? Who exports this fish from the lake? Where did you find it?

"Novarum" has been exported by Tropheus Tanganika from Cracow, Poland - http://www.tropheus.com.pl and this is a place where my wife took these photos. Now they have about 5o individuals.
I don't know where this tropheus lives in lake. I'll ask Marta Mierzenska from Tropheus to answer this question here.

Hello

Tropheus was captured by ACA Ltd from Zambia near Mtoto in Congo.
This fish doesn't have population name becouse it is not the same to T. sp. Mtoto (P. Schupke population 3.8 )
That's why I call it Tropheus sp. novarum.
Maybe we should name it T. sp. Mtoto II?

Looking at these pictures the first time, I was convinced that these fish were in fact T. sp. "mtoto" which I kept a number of years ago. The simularity is very obvious. They sure are a beautiful variant.

Sorry Marta but I do not have pictures of these fish. It is almost 20 years ago when I kept them and photography was not on the horizon for me them.

The fish in your pictures are very pretty. I guess I am just a bit too sceptically when it comes to "new" Tropheus variants. Breeders in Singapore have already started to flood the market with so called "new Tropheus" and it is not easy to track them. I will wait and see what happens with the fish you are showing. If they turn out to be the real thing, I would definitely like to have some.
