Benitochromis nigrodorsalis

Postby Dave Schumacher » Sun Jan 02, 2005 11:55 pm

I had a pair spawn a few days ago for the first time, and I was wondering if anyone knew about how long it would be before the fry are fully developed and ready to be stripped.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dave,

a friend of mine keeps these cichlids and he told me that it depends on the temperature. Over 26°C it take about 17 days, from 23°C to 26°C about three weeks.

regards

Michael

Benitochromis nigrodorsalis

Hello Dave,

Benitochromis nigrodorsalis are monogamous pair-bonding mouthbrooders that continue to take their free-swimming fry back into the mouth at night and when disturbed. It's not recommended to strip them of their fry prematurely, as one would a haplochromine. If you leave the fry with the parents, you're in for quite a treat. They make excellent parents.

Good luck!

All the best,

Randall Kohn
