My Xenotilapia Enantiopus sp. Kilesa

Postby Tanganicodus » Thu May 24, 2007 8:33 am

I'm a college student from China. There have been only one year since I met this lovely fish. Now,I have 6 males and only one female for about 2months in 100*40*40 tank. Maybe it's too small? I found that high density can reduce aggression and conflict.
It is hard 4 me 2 get these kinds of fish (I mean cichlid) in local market ,especially the female.I don't know whether I can order some from aboard directly. Does anyone can tell me ? thanks a lot !
Here are some of the pictures ! Any suggestion will be appreciated ! I am very glad 2 kown all of u,please help me with my fish and English!

Hi and welcome !
I can't see your picture ;)

It's clearly too small for this species. A length of 150 would be much better.
Having several males is not really a problem, some won't be able to spawn, that's all. But the only female won't have any rest, this is more annoying.

They are very nice indeed! I would also say, that the Tank is a little too small.
I`ve had these cichlids for a lttle over a Year, in varying Tanks, from 325-720L. I started out with 3,5 WC specimens, sold off a pair and then lost a few, and
I ended up with a single male, but I did manage to get Them to breed first, so now I have 4,5 F1 + the remaing WC male, which is now busy with the young females. They live in this Tank: http://www.kim-jakobsen.dk/Akvarieoplys ... arium3.htm

You can find some info on kilesa here: http://www.cichlidae.com/section.php?n=tsd&id=98 and in this article, though not on kilesa but its close cousin melanogenys, are guidelines for maintenance in the aquarium - their needs are the same: http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=360

All the best, Thomas
