Question About the Monthly Meetings

Postby JimmyFrontosa » Wed May 02, 2012 12:01 pm

In regards to the auctions that are held at the monthly meetings. Are members permitted to bring fish (in general) to be auctioned off or is the auction solely to be used for fish that are submitted as part of the BAP program?

Thanks!

You can bring in Cichlids, Catfish and plants to the meeting for the auction.

BAP is the program for any recognized cichlid species that you have personally spawned. There is a stricter requirement for these submissions.

Thanks Dee. This is good information for the future. I thought the auction was only for the BAP fish.

Good Question about auction fish.
As Dee replied, you can bring fish to the club meeting simply to auction them off.
Maximum is 6 bags total I believe.

BAP: When participating in the Breeders Award Program, you must bring 6 fish from your spawn to turn in for BAP Certification.
Make sure that any fish you turn in for BAP are old enough for the next guy to keep alive. Your fish should be at least 1/2" - 3/4" long.
ALL BAP fish will be auctioned off at the end of the meeting, so if you want your fish back, you'll have to buy them. As BAP fish are small
you should not use bag buddies or any chemical that changes the color of the water. The BAP chairman will want to have a good look at them.

Club meetings are not the best way to auction off large numbers of fish that you want to move.
It's great if you have one group or a few fish that you want to part with, but if you are planning on moving
a large number of bags/species, it's always best to take those to a local auction. Several local clubs in your
area have auctions frequently, so just ask at a club meeting. You'll be able to find out quickly when the next
auction is, and many times flyers will be available with detailed information at the club meetings.

A great way to offer fish for sale is to use the "For Sale" section below. Pre-selling fish for the monthly meeting is a
great way to move fish without having to wait for the auction or worry about getting too little cash for your prized specimens.
This sell/buy area is available to Ohio Cichlid Association Members only, and in itself is worth the price of membership in our club.

One thing I neglected to mention is that you must be a member to auction your fish at a club meeting.
It's another one of the benefits of membership.
