Katria katria and plants

Postby Janne Aho » Thu Jun 25, 2009 8:18 pm

Hi everyone!

My name is Janne Aho and I'm from Finland. I have three biotope tanks from Africa (Congo 212 g, Tanganyika 180 g and Madagascar 95 g) and one of them is imitating a small shady river bank with gentle current from eastern Madagascar, 600 meters asl., Mananjary drainage. I have there a nice school of Bedotia geayi and they are swimming between rocks, driftwood and three Aponogeton ulvaceus plants. Katria katria inhabits the next river drainage, Nosivolo river. I would like to buy one or two males and females of Katria katria, but do You have any experiences with this cichlid species and plants? I have read that Katria katria inhabits rivers with sand and gravel bottom and scattered boulders. No plant species? What about the tank size 95 gallons for two or four katria in my biotope?

I don't know about the feeding habits of Katria, but many Madagascar cichlids do like to eat plants, save Paratilapia.

but I also wasn't aware of any Katria for sale in Europe....are they available in Finland?
lucky you!

I'd go for them if I were you, and if they eat the plants, just be happy that they have a healthy appetite ;)
