great pix!

very tough imposing fish; I've never seen this variety before.

from a local fish store or from connections in the Madafish keeping community?

Hello :D

I think this is the species also called Paratilapia sp. Fianarantsoa or sometimes "Green Face".
Fiamanga is a local name used for Paratilapia in Southern Highlands, and has been given to different populations/species several times, so I think it can be a confusing name. I prefer to use Paratilapia sp. Fianarantsoa  Ask Tom or Sonia if I'm right.

According to Patrick de Rham, this strain come from a pisciculture near Fianarantsoa.

I have some young from Sonia & Dave at home, they have a special head shape. Young P. sp. Andapa at the same size have a shorter snout.
Best regards, Michael

Zigster
can you tell a bit about how you house these?
tanksize, other fish etc.

for a pair that 'argue a lot", this fish looks pristine, you should see my paratilapia's.....

I'm curious about agressionlevels and how you keep them from going mideaval on each other.
furniture in the tank and all that.

Hi Sid,

They are kept in a 6 x 2 x 2 with all my other Madagascan's , lots of Bogwood and rocks. The female has a small space between some Bogwood that she can fit in but he cant.If he gets a little rough she normally goes in there and stay for about 30mins.In the meantime he takes out his aggression on the smaller Paretroplus but they are far to small and easily get away.He will them try to pester the Lamena but he is no push over

At the minute they are defending defending a area of the tank and look like they want to bred
