Hello,

do you know the origin of this fish ?

As you are in Europe, it could be Paratilapia sp. Andapa : body shape, large spots and yellowish margin on the dorsal fin seems to match with this species.

Identification of Paratilapia is often difficult, as different species were mixed years ago. If you know where your fish is from, it will help a lot.

Paratilapia bleekeri from surroundings of Antananarivo is presumed extinct, but maybe some populations still exist in the wild.
A Paratilapia, sold by Old World Exotic Fish as "Paratilapia bleekeri Maralambo" (Marolambo, Nosilovo River) may correspond to this species.
Best regards, Michael

Hi Michael

I don´t think they are Andapa, I had them and they had bigger markings than this fish. They do seem to fit the P. bleekeri look with markings instead of spots like P. polleni has. However the taxonomy of this group is not clear at all and there aren´t still any definite classifications acceptedby all.

For the time beeing it's absolutly not sure that there is any P. blekeeri alive in the world !

From P. de Rham I learn that the type population of P. typus has been found by P. Loiselle in Menarara. This species is a large blotched Paratilapîa sp.
Maybe conspecific with P. "Andapa" (personnal point of view)
