It's apparent that Ptychochromis grandidieri has a common name that is extremely appropriate. It can be found in Madagascar along almost the entire east coast of the island. It is not as threatened or as endangered a species as virtually all of the other Madagascan cichlid species because of a much more extensive range and an ability to withstand saline conditions (brackish water estuaries, coastal lagoons). And the yellow-gold breeding coloration speaks for itself - pretty stunning.
