Ok so i got a breeding group of Paralabidochromis sp " red piebald", not red fin piebald as i was told. Now is this a man made strain or a true strain. From what i am told a speaker at the ACA was questioning this fish. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Dustin B.
The male a little stressed
Pics of 4 of the girls, the last one just spit fry for the previous hobbyist.
Your fish looks fine. Paralabidochromis sp. "red fin piebald". Depending on who you talk to they may refer to this fish as Haplochromis as, like so many other haplochromines, it lacks a formal description. It's from the Kyoga basin north of Lake Victoria in Uganda. I really can't see why it was questioned as all individuals look (from your pictures) as fair representation of the species. There is a "florescent" variant I have seen. I suspect that this is no more than a little selective breeding to bring out the pink coloration. All in all very beautiful little fish.
Thanks Greg i got the same response from Kevin B. in Columbus Ohio. He keeps many vics also and i justed wanted to get some conformation on these guys. Thanks again Dustin B.
I just got em so not breeding for me yet shouldn't take to long I hope. I will let you know when they do as for by the time they are of size it will be a little warmer and I can ship em up your way. Dustin B.
