Need cichlid photos

Postby janemsanders » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:18 pm

I am in need of the following photos of specific cichlids for use in a college biology textbook, Cain: Discovering Biology, 4e for WW Norton publishers. If anyone has photos (high-res, 300 dpi digital files) of any of these, please contact me directly at janemsanders@comcast.net. I nearing a deadline, of course, so the sooner the better. I've been trying to find these for a while.

African cichlid species-
Haplochromis chilotes
Hapochromis macrognathus
Astatotilapia elegans
Macropleuroduc bicolor

Since I am not an expert in this area, please include caption information, so I know exactly what the photo portrays and where.

Thank you.

It may help if you used the correct names or other alternate names for the above to help you in your search:

Haplochromis chilotes = Paralabidochromis chilotes
Hapochromis macrognathus = Haplochromis macrognathus
Astatotilapia elegans = Haplochromis elegans
Macropleuroduc bicolor = Macropleurodus bicolor

It would also help to be in the Victorian section. None of these are from Malawi.

hi On the list yu posted, H."Prognatochromis" macrognathus seems extinct in the wild, yu'll hardly get some pix, it's a piscivore species that reached 25 cm long.
Haplochromis"Paralabidochromis"chilotes is an insect eater, well distributed in the all Victoria lake, he lives on differnts biotops as rocky reefs, sandy zones and planted aeras. Its hunting method is to check the insect larvaes at te basis of the rocks.
H."Macropleurodus bicolor" is an shell eater eatinf melanoides and plannorbs, it's an oral extractor, I think it's a very endangered species, it was collected at many places before the Nile perch aera, it leved over the muddy and sandy zones;
H.elegans is a fish from Edward and George lakes, an insect eater and zooplancton feeder that wasn't exported in the hobby, it seems not to be endangered.
Yu may ask in Http://www.haplochromis.org
perhaps there are some pix of the species yu're seachin' for.
xris :)

Interesting! That picture was taken by me at the Columbus zoo and the ID isn't certain.

I'm not sure who took my photo and placed it in their imageshack account. I don't really care, except that the ID isn't confirmed and this is how internet mis-information occurs.
