Hi Mike

Nice fish. I believe it to be a Haplochromis sp. "35". It's an intermediate form of the sp. "tomato". These are not as aggressive as a sp. "44" but still can wreck havok on more doscile tankmates. They are fantasticly beautiful fish and you will not be dissapointed purchasing them. They are suppose to be from the Kome Islands in the northern region of Lake Victoria. I really don't know much about their place in this ecosystem but perhaps samaki might have some additional information.

really?! a sp. 35.... those are a little more rare arent they? I am not trying to doubt you as I know you have tons of experience with vics...just kinda caught me off guard...lol.

I dont currently have this fish on hand. I will be getting it this coming sunday. but it is only 1M/1F and I hope they are true and will hopefully breed quickly.

The guy i am getting these from had purchased these plus alot of other fish at the last GCCA auction in chicago. He said he bought too many fish and had to get rid of them for what he paid for them. So...im not sure if the pics he sent me...which i posted here, are his true color...not sure if it would be stressed a little in pics.

Do you have any information or reference to a place on the sp.35's?

I thought sp 35 immediately myself. They're very cool fish. The color should get much nicer than that as it matures and/or becomes more dominant.

thanks for the help guys. I will repost some pics once they are settled in. I found the information on your site GAS. Great site BTW. Good to find someone in the hobby that truly has experience with victorians.

Its just so hard to be sure of what you are getting when buying these species. I just wouldnt want to resell "false" fish knowingly ... the same as anyone feels in this hobby.

Hi I don't have much more datas than Greg has, I beleive this fish to be a sand dwelling species but I don't have any certitudes, just a guess.

How big are they? I have quite a few of them, but they're only around 1.5-2"
