Petrochromis!

Postby Thomas Andersen » Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:12 am

We have just finished uploading the last pictures of Petrochromis to the CRC catalogue, so now all species, described as well as undescribed, should be present: http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery.php?genus=Petrochromis

Here are a couple of tasters:

Petrochromis sp. "Giant" at Namansi:

Petrochromis sp. "Kasumbe":

If any of you are keeping Petrochromis and want to share some pictures with the rest of us, please do it here - I'd love to see some!

All the best, Thomas

Wonderful photos, Arthur and Tasma!

Arthur, this is the most yellow Moshi I've ever seen - they are just amazing :) Is the female still incubating?

Thomas,
I had Moshi which was so yellow. This colour is characteristis in breeding. In this time male and female had black eyes.

Yes the Mahale Moshi is very yellow, but after they spawn the female look more like a ephippium saddelback. Another thing is that they become weaker in the colour as time goes, so perhaps it's the food that are giving this amazing yellow colour. I don't know if she still are incubating, it look like, but I think she are eating to aggressive at the stones. Anyway I have to wait 2 weeks more, then I know.
Here are a picture of two females, the biggest is the one that spawn for two weeks ago.

Wonderful fish! I must admit that I'm getting a little hooked on these guys :)

Paolo, I remember seeing a picture of your Petro-tank on another forum. It looked very, very aesthetic, almost like a marine tank. Could I persuade you to post a picture of it on here?

After seeing Paolo's fantastic tank it's difficult to continue, but here is a Petrochromis sp. "macrognathus rainbow" female. A wonderful fish  but extremely aggressive :(

Paolo

Amazing! That is absolutely the most perfect Petrochromis aquarium! Have you been able to spawn them yet in this set up?

Beautiful pictures and some awesome fish. I just like to chime in here since I have not seen any pictures of our good old P. Trewawasae.

amazing fish.

i'm especially charmed by those "red" petro's.

are they somewhat smaller then the huge polyodon species or just the opposite: real tankbusters?

I really love your Petros guys not just the red guys but they are esp cool. Sadly I have only room for Tropheus at the moment but you can bet these guys are the next when I get the tank the space required.
What do you reckon? is that 200g for a breeding colony? 100g for the odd one in with a Troph colony?
