Proper name for this peacock

Postby Lisachromis » Sun Oct 24, 2004 8:30 pm

Ok, I was wondering the correct species name for the following fish.

Aulonocara stuartgranti "Maulana Bicolor 500" or is it Aulonocara maulana "Bicolor 500"? I see it listed both ways. Which is the correct terminology?

For some the Maulana is a variant of stuartgranti but others believes it's a separate species.
So You can use Aulonocara stuartgranti "Maulana" or A. sp " Maulana" anyway you forget the commercial name "bicolor 500" ! It doesn't mean anything !

It's a pretty fish by either name. I just don't like when I can't properly name a fish. I don't even know what the arguments are for either name. Makes it tough to figure out which to use. Personally, unless I get corrected (things change so often in fish names at times), I'll go with A. sp. "maulana".
