In 2008 I had some of the local children in Chipoka catch some fish for me with mosquito-net.
They went some 500 meters south of Malawi Aquatics collectingstation to a small beach there just after small rocks.
Max water depth is approx 1 meter!http://maps.google.dk/maps/ms?msid=2013 ... 4,0.019205
(don't know if you can see markings on map?)
The beach is approx 400 meters north of Pierre's ponds you can see in the picture.
Little additional info on the ponds:
Those ponds are for raising Clarias and Bagrus as foodfish.
Arround 100 meters norh of the big ponds you see small concrete ponds and a house next to it.
Smaller ponds are for raising catfish fry, in the house they strip the parent fish. Green pond is "algae farm" for zooplanton used for fry.
It also have some resembelance to the Alticorpus, but as You also guess Placidochromis..
I have some time ago sent the picture to Jos Snoeks , he also mentioned Aulonocara but it lacks the "sensory pits" these group of fish have..
