Phenochilus safe with Synodontis decorus's filaments?

Postby taeniopareius » Thu Nov 24, 2011 4:33 pm

I have some surplus 5 inches Placidochromis phenochilus Mdoka that I am thinking about putting into a tank with adult Synodontis decorus catfish with long dorsal fin filament. I wonder would phenochilus be likely to nip at the filament or not. If not I would keep them together. Any suggestion?

I would think that they could, yes. Not out of agression, but due to their feeding behaviour. My Phenochilus take all the time small floating bits in their mouth, chew them, and swallow or spit it out again if it's not edible. The filaments could be tempting...

Thanks. Too risky to let the filament be lost...

I would tend to agree. Phenochilus are not agressive, but they are véry curious! Better safe than sorry in this case.
