Egg spots and fin colouration is never a good way to sex labs. This is best done by venting them, although even this method is difficult depending on the size of the fish.

Labidochromis caeruleus is a cichlid that has both sexes appear the same. Unless you see a female holding, or are willing to try and vent them, trying to figure out their sex is just a guessing game. Even venting works best on fish that have already spawned....

:?: :?: Good luck in finding out the sex of your Labs. I have 6 of them that I have had over a year, some have egg spots, some not. None have ever had frys, and they are not agressive towards each other. Lots of hiding places. I have either all males or all females...I am in the same 'boat' as you  . When I purchased them they were vented (or good acting  ). There were supposed to be 4 female 2 males. I later found out from another lfs that it is very difficult to tell the sex when they are very young....so now mine are older, and I am not any wiser...I still don't know what they are. I have all Males, or all Females.....but they are fun!!! Good Luck :!:
