[Heroina isonycterina] Breeding

Postby Hypancistrus_spp » Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:59 am

Hi Everyone...

Well just wanted to share my joy and pride. My pair of Heroina isonycterina finally spawn. I obtain them as young fry from Florent (who is also browsing here) 2 years ago
THey choose a rather uncommon spawning site.
I usually keep my Echinodorus in clay flower pot.
They totally dig the sand out of the pot and the female laid her eggs in the interior wall of the pot.
The eggs hatched after 72 hours.
5 days later the young were free swimming.
The pair is now guarding around 50 young ones...
The female assured the care to the eggs and young while the male patrols around at close distance and keep curious away...

Congratulations on the successful spawning Yann. Are these fish in a tank by themselves, or in with some other fish?

Hi!

Well after 2 new unseccessfull spawn...I was able to obtain a 4th... I have now several free swimming youngs... I left them for a week with the parents but they are now in a seperated tank so I can raise them better and it will also avoid they finish in the stomach of the other occupants...

Cheers

Congratulations! That means some other people will have access to them. Spread all the fish around! :)

Hi!

Just a little update.
The first spawn is know 2 months old and looking like miniature replicas of the adult... very neat... boy do these eat a lot... pretty impressive fir such small fish...

The fry of spawn n°4 are getting bigger as well, starting th put more height on their bodies, style not quite the look of the adult but it is getting close.

I also have now spawn n°5 and the fry are now free swimming...
Parents guard them in 1/3 of the tank... the male is also pretty actuve in the close guard duty, some times gently pushing the female away from the young. The pair has a good harmony...

Cheers
Yann

Heroina isonycterina

Postby Tonny Brandt Andersen » Wed Aug 31, 2005 3:02 am

Is there anyone who has Heroina isonycterina today. I found it in Columbia in 1993. But I would like to keep in my own aquarium.
