I know, I know... another geo ID (please)

Hello all,
I have a group of fish from two sources, all sold as G altifrons.
The first fish, geoA, is from a wild shipment from yeeears ago.
More gold in the head, amber eye, striped tail:

The second fish, geoB, is representative of the rest of my school.
More grey in the face, red eyes, spots on tail:

GeoA is the dominant fish in the tank, and is starting to exhibit pairing behaviour with the geoB individual.
At the very least they're different localities, at most different species, so I'd like to sort things out before I have an ethical dilemma on my hands (hybrids are a no-go).

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

You have two different species and Geophagus A can't be an altifrons. Geophagus have a spotted tail, no stripes .Geo a is wild but do you know from where ?

I honestly can't remember where geoA was from, it was a rough time for me.

Probably one of those undescribed Geophagus sp. aff. altifrons species. Here is an interesting read - an article by von Jens Gottwald. Please note the pictures on page four.

I once had a fish quite similar to your fish A showing up in a mixed shipment of G sp tapajos and another G sp cf altifrons - quite similar to G sp maicuru. The Rio Maicuru flows approximately 50 km east of the R Tapajos, from the north, into the R Amazon.

The fish similar to Geo B however, was a third species. Frankly, I assumed it was a left over fish from earlier fish in the tank at the exporter. This fish was very dominant in my tank too.

But I don't have a clue about where it came from

So.. we don't know the identity of either fish?
This is all fascinating, a little mystery in my living room

Thanks again for the input, I find now that I'm looking at stationary pictures instead of moving animals, the differences are popping out at me. This is so exciting! (especially when compared to the psych course I'm trying to finish!)

That's what I dislike about those movies everybody is posting now: I can only watch them at 1 speed.

If I like 1 out of 10 pictures, I can skip them, but it's hard to fast forward a movie without missing the interesting part - especially if it downloads in the same speed as it plays.

And if the interesting part is very short, watching a movie might not even show it.

I much rather see pictures. Or stills as some people call them
