Heros ID

Postby HaakonH » Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:59 pm

I have some wild caught Heros in the store where I work. They came in as Heros efasciatus Peru, but I think they look quite a lot like Heros sp."Red Shoulder". The pic is poor, and shows a dominant male. Any thoughts?

Usually the Red Shoulder Severums have a green head.
Is the blue on your fish the real colour or is it the lighting in the tank ?

Green head?

I'd say these are Hero sp. "red shoulder" the only thing odd I notice is that the bars go all the way up, but maybe they are young. Mine have bars stopping just under the midlateral line.

Here he is again. The camera on my samsung phone exaggerates the colors a bit, the blue is not quite as intense as these pics suggest, but this is certainly a beautiful group of wild Heros. He is about 14 cm.
