Nice pair. Tnx for posting.
They breed at such small size, wow. You saying female around 3.5 " only? Do you know how old they are? BTW how big is the tank?
I look at your videos, and I also have bunch of Convicts as dither in 220 gal tank with larger fish including my male Moto.
If not him, they would be overpopulating the tank, because all other fish who is way bigger then Convicts do back off when they protect the fry. But they just fall short protecting from my Tiger, he just take them apart, never stops, untill Cons gave up. Almost 10" Cuban can't do that 8)

They were in a custom 70 gallon 51x19 foot print. THey were between 10 and 11 months old. I had them for 8 months from 3/4" I got 8, the male killed all but one and that's when the convicts got added...

Very handsome fish. Is the N. tetracanthus the dominant cichlid in the tank?

Nope, the 13" Ex. Cichlosoma Pearsei.
N.Tetracantus is around 9" and # 4 in the order of dominance.

I was able to be next to the 220 gal tank and take pictures of the situations when Convict pair decided to mate and end up in Moto's territory. They actually tried to attack him, Mota usually don't pay much attention to smaller guys like Conv's. Convict are not sluch either, the male is around 4 year old and full 6" TL, plus all wire up to mate  .
So, yeah, end up running like it's no tomorrow:)
