I free up some space in my 210 gal tank and decide to bring this guy in, many inches to go
He is around 2" now.

IMO it's a male as there is far too much dappling on the unpaired fins to be female.

One of my femeles used to have spotted fins - but the spots did disappear around 10 cm. She is now nicely, brightly orange.

Indeed, Time will tell.
All three of us already try to sex my juvenile Cuban some time ago, and it is not what most of us thought, but I did had gut feeling it's a male despite many say otherwise.

I'm not certain, but my guess is it will develop into a she. This is based on the bricht area arount the lateral spot. I've not seen any female without is, and no male with is - even at small size - 4 cm / 1.5 inch.

However, many people know a lot more about these fishes than I do, so please comments, gentlemen / ladiesBas Pels

Definitely a male IMO.
I have a pair of RTM's and the male has some orange/red markings on its cheaks.

Heres a pic of my male. Not the greatest pic to enphasise my point i agree, But he can at times exibit orange/red colouration to his cheaks.



Heres the female.



When i first got them they were very drab and colourless. The female is larger than the male and i assumed she was the male.
It wasnt long before they coloured up and i then realised my mistake. ( i'll feel so silly if im wrong lol)
They went through their breeding courtship a few weeks ago, but nothing came of it.
Theyre now in the 8 foot community tank and ignore each other.
They are very greedy and wolf down chopped white fish, prawns, Hikari carnivore pellets and Hikari massivore delite.
I feed twice a day, but perform regular water changes every other day.

Also who is their tankmates in the 8ft tank of yours? How do they interact with others?
Mine seems little, tough cookie, remind me when I got N. Tetrachanthus at about the same size. They both start flaring to much larger fish and dominate most at very short period of the time.
