The APC (Portuguese Cichlid Association) is organizing and promoting an International Cichlid Convention. The event will be held in Lisbon, next June, from friday 23rd to sunday, the 25th.
The Portuguese convention intends to be a meeting place for European cichlid fans, and from all over the world: Lisbon is a pleasant and peaceful city, full of sun, blue sky and sea; it is a nice place for spending a few days talking about cichlids, enjoying the weather and the countryside.
It will feature Dr. Wolfgang Staeck as one the speakers.
The convention will include an unusual activity: an expedition to cichlids in the wild.
Portugal presents large populations of "Cichlasoma facetum", a cichlid from South Brazil introduced in Portugal sixty years ago to fight malaria (at that time this disease still existed in South Portugal).
In one day trip we will visit rivers with crystal waters, full of cichlids: in June there will be Cichlasoma facetum pairs with fry. It's an unique experience to be in the water together with those pairs, watching them tendering their fry.
