Jack Dempsey and Green Terror

Postby billseagles » Sat Oct 31, 2009 11:52 pm

I have a 55 gallon tank with 1 large pacasamus about 12inches. I have 2 small cichlids a Jack Dempsey and Green Terror, the JD is about 2x the size of Green Terror. Initially the JD was chasing the smaller Green Terror around the tank for about month. Now the JD has gone into hiding. he is extremely scared of me going near the tank. Which left the Green Terror with control of the tank. About 1 - 2 wks later both fish have gone into hiding. Both seem very scared although the GT will come out and at times let me near the tank. If the JD is out when i come around he immediately darts away from me.

Where do i start?

P.S. the reason for a large pacasamus is i used to have a large Jack Dempsey both of these fish i've had in this same tank for approximatley 10+ years.. recently the Jack Dempsey passed away.

I assume your pacasamu is actually a plecostomus.

Can you tell us a little more about how the tank is decorated? Only the 3 fish in the tank?

I have very few items in the tank at this time. The reason being is the old occupant used to tear the tank apart. I have the bottom with small rocks, a log in middle of tank, a small rock cave on one end and a tree rock on the other end. The JD hides out in the small rock cave on the right side of tank. Yes its time for a make over, but im on a tight buget at the moment so any suggestions would be greatly aprreciated. Thanks in advance...

In this tank your cichlids are getting "agoraphobia", and I think your Plecostomus is
(even for heroin-cichlids) a scary monster.

You need a lot more stones and wood in the tank and you must give them a reason to akt.
