New to cichlid experienced tropical what fish?

Post by bluebluecow » Mon Feb 27, 2017 7:01 am

Hi all
Little background 1st. I have had very many tropical tanks in the past at one time 5. Now down to 2 tropical tanks for the kids. I have also done marine I'm the past.
I have a 90l tank that is coming to the end of cycling and I am now starting to think which fish.
I have always wanted cichlids so I have decided to take the plunge but find it difficult to seperate rivers when the fish shops don't seem to want to say which system they are from.
I have decided I really want some fairy cichlids and want them as my start to building up a community.
So what other cichlids whould you recommend. I don't want angels . I would like mainly blue and yellow fish.
Thanks in advance.
My tank has lots of rock and caves.
Thank you

If you want blue, I think you end up in Lake Malawi. With a Mbuna tank

Now I never kept Mbuna, so I think this is where my help must end

You mentioned wanting to keep fairy cichlids so I will assume you mean Neolamprologus brichardi correct? If so, I would keep a pair or a trio and add no other fish.

Your tank is relatively small for cichlids so you will be limited by which species you can keep.

Your tank dimensions are about 20"L x 17"W x 21"H or about 30 gallons.
