Sick C. furcifer..

Postby dorapeach » Wed Jan 02, 2008 9:13 am

Hi everyone!

My new furcifers (Moliro) arrived a bit too soon, so didnt had the new 720l ready for them.. Then i had to put them in a 400l with 10 Petrochromis trewavasae,. That didnt go to well with the petros., The catched bloat becouse i didnt want to medicate(bactopur direct) as i always do when i get new fish., Thats becouse the furcifers came with 20 c. letposoma jumbo and 15 paracyprichromis- and in my experience these does not take medication well..

And now- a week later, all the petros are dead and a furcifer female does not eat :(

Do you featherfins experts think i should medicate and witch medication do you have good expirence with?

This is my first time with featherfins, and as i am a tropheuskeeper, i get very nervous when the fish don't eat!

I hope you understand the spelling and grammar., My english is very "norwegian" :?

Yours,
Kristian

Hello Kristian, welcome to the CRC, and don't worry; your English is just fine :)

Are the female still not eating? What about the rest of the group; are they doing fine?

If it's only the one female that hesitate to eat, and the rest of the group are looking healthy and eating well, I don't think you should medicate in the main tank. If you have a smaller tank available, put her into it, and offer her some small live food like newly hatched brine shrimp. If she starts eating, this is often enough to get the stomach going again. If you try this and she still refuses to eat, it's time to medicate.

All the best, Thomas

Just curious, how did you conclude that they had bloat?
