Epalzeorhynchus bicolor & Epalzeorhynchos frenatum

Postby Alex Odesit » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:40 pm

Another species I love and try to keep in most tank set ups I am running.
And yes, I keep them several in each tanks also mixed with each other, they do fight sometimes but with enough space sub dominate recuperate fast and saga continues.
Red Tail is always winning and seems stronger more powerful fish.
Some of my sharks live with large CA/SA cichlids (over 10") and I never accounted any (sharks) missing, guess they are not as tasty as Chalseus or Gouramis (except Kissers) who all become a snack. :(
Both of these sharks are great scavengers, better then any cory cats I had, also being much more colorful...

The bad: bicolor is close to extinct in the wild [but we do not know much about its natural habitat so they may be somewhere we do not know...] Bicolor seems to be rather nasty and getting worse with incresing size.

The good: all or the great great majority of bicolor in the hobby are captive bred [using hormone injection]. They are long live too.

Saw a huge Red Tail (Epalzeorhynchus bicolor) couple weeks ago, probably close to 7" TL.

Lost one Diamante tetra due to the old age most probably. Red tails shark is right there to take care of the dead fish and save the tank from pollution. In case dead fish trapped or some were out of sight, these red tail or rainbow sharks are great help.
