Looking for Blue Sexfasciatus

Postby BryanDavis » Fri Oct 14, 2011 8:44 am

Does anybody know where I might be able to find any of the blue variety of Neolamprologus Sexfasciatus?? I have done pretty extensive internet searches and come up empty, I want to take the challenge of breeding them, suppose to be very difficult from what I here. Please let me know if anybody has them and willing to part with them, Thanks ---- Bryan

Hy,
first of sorry, I can not provide you with the fish.
I have 6 of these here at the university and I have (had) the same objective to breed the fu...ers. So far without any success!
Even hormone treatment did not lead to any spawning. I dont know what else to do.... If you ever manage, be sure to let me know how you made it!

Toby Veals place in Zambia has a whole pond full of them but unfortunately export is not opperational at the moment.

I wish you good luck with finding and with breeding them.

Cheers

Adrian

Hi Adrian

I understand that hormone treatments can be quite tricky getting just the right amount into a fish. Were your tests extensive?

I wonder if the potential to change sex might have something to do with the inability of this species to reproduce in captivity?

I have some pcs N. sexfasciatus Blue Zambia. I try to breed them severale years. Without effrectively. I haven't idea why? I sexed them - I have male and female. Male are agressive to other males. All fish are from ACA LTd.

Hi Bryan

I think Old World Exotic Fish, owned by Laif Demason, just got some in.

Thanks everybody for the replies, I am still looking for them, what really bugs me is that I don't think there is any difference between the different colors of sexfasciatus or the tretacephalus in the way that they breed or behavior, I am breeding tretacephalus in multiple pairs in the same tank. I think that the difficulty in breeding the blue variety of sexfasciatus may just be that they are not being bred in captivity, once some F1's or tank raised start making it around, this generation should be easier to breed I believe!
