What Is The Largest Cichlid Species?

Post by Mark Smith » Fri Apr 14, 2017 10:57 am

I found this link to a Cichla species (C. temensis?) that weighed in at 28 pounds.

Anyone know of any larger cichlids? Boulengerochromis microlepis is often touted as the largest cichlid species, but I don't think it becomes as large as some Cichla species.

Do you mean in length, that is cm, or inches?

Or in weight, that is KG or pounds?

Cichla temensis is said to grow to 100 cm, Boulengerochromis to 70

Parachromis dovii can hit this 70 cm too, but there is also a large, green cichlid in Panama, said to get over 60 cm.

In weight I think one of these might outweigh the Cichla

It would good to find out the maximum weight of the species you mentioned. If they are not as heavy as 28 pounds, then this Cichla would hold two record titles for a cichlid, namely the heaviest and longest species.
