Tropheus moorii "Papagay Orange Sunspot" ID confirmation

Postby Colby Dixon » Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:51 pm

Hey folks,

The Cichlidbase project needs your help! While Alex Calder is working on version 3.0 (Blog) we are attempting to positively ID and validate suspected ID's of many of our Cichlid photographs. Juan has graciously agreed to let us use this Forum's Expertise in verifying our photos. Any and all help is appreciated. All photos by Alex Calder.

Thank You,
Colby Dixon and the entire Cichlidbase team.

This fish was labeled as Tropheus moorii "Papagay Orange Sunspot"

I think papgay is a marketing name. It seems to be coming from Verduijn Cichlids which import and distribute across Europre. The two retailers
I have spoken with who had this fish both got them from verduijn

Seems these were discussed elsewhere before.
Rather than try and thrash out truth from opinion. I will just offer the URL.

So M'pulungu or sometimes called Kasakalawe. They are so close I think few (not me for sure) could tell the difference unless told by the guys who catch them.
Matches the look I think.
Wish folk would not make up and use trade names. It is hard enough without em. :?
