Tropheus moorii "Ndole Red" ID confirmation

Postby Colby Dixon » Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:49 pm

Hey folks,

The Cichlidbase project needs your help! While Alex Calder is working on version 3.0 (Blog) we are attempting to positively ID and validate suspected ID's of many of our Cichlid photographs. Juan has graciously agreed to let us use this Forum's Expertise in verifying our photos. Any and all help is appreciated. All photos by Alex Calder.

Thank You,
Colby Dixon and the entire Cichlidbase team.

This fish was labeled as Tropheus moorii "Ndole Red"

Hard to be sure but seems very un red for Ndole (not very scientific I know). Though young can have very little colour and can look a bit like that one. I can post pics of my Ndole but not sure it would help much.
Ndole I think seem to be a mixed population from Chimba like ones to Kachese like ones but all seem more red than that to me.
I do hope mine are the real deal. :)
I would say yep a moorii or sp."red" depending on who you follow but pinning an exact location I am afraid I can not with these types.
I could hazard a guess as to the location but it would be just that a (hopefully educated) guess.

Not sure anyone can fix locations to sp."red" with any accuracy, its best to do it the other way round I think.
Photo fish and later their young from a known collection site.

Very nice, thank you James. That was an excellent way to illustrate your point.
